It is tempting to ask, "Is microdosing safe?" as though there were a single answer printed on the side of the box. There is not. Safety is not a property of the truffle; it is a relationship between a substance and a specific person, on a specific day, in a specific life. The honest question is never "Is it safe?" but "Is it reasonable for me, now?"
Think of your personal risk as a stack. Each of these adds a layer:
Medications you take, especially daily ones.
Mental-health history, your own and your family's.
Physical conditions, particularly anything involving the heart.
Life circumstances and stress — grief, upheaval, exhaustion, instability.
None of these is automatically disqualifying on its own. But they stack. Two modest factors together can matter more than either alone, and the person standing on a tall stack carries far more risk than the headlines, written for an average that is no one, would suggest.
In medicine, informed consent means you understand what you are agreeing to before you agree. You can do the same thing privately, in a journal, before anything is on the table. The goal is not to talk yourself into or out of anything — it is to be able to answer honestly:
What, specifically, am I hoping will happen — and is that hope realistic?
Am I doing this from curiosity and stability, or to escape something I have not faced?
What medications and conditions are in my stack right now?
Who knows I am considering this, and would they raise a concern?
What would make me stop?
If you cannot answer these calmly and truthfully, that is not a failure. It is information. The right move may be to wait.
A word on the law, because it is part of consenting honestly. Fresh truffles are legal only in the Netherlands, and only for adults aged 18 or over. This course does not encourage anyone to break the law of their own jurisdiction. Knowing and respecting your legal reality is itself part of responsible adult decision-making.
Some situations are not subtle. They are signals to pause, or to talk to a doctor first, rather than press on. Without diagnosing anyone, here are clear examples where the mature answer is "not now" or "not without a clinician":

Being on daily psychiatric medication — a conversation with the prescriber comes first.
A personal or family history of psychosis or related conditions.
Pregnancy or breastfeeding, where the unknowns are simply too large.
An unstable or significant heart condition, or uncontrolled blood pressure.
We will explore each of these properly in later lessons. For now, the point is recognition: if one of these describes you, the responsible next step is a professional conversation, not a purchase.
A red flag is not a verdict on you as a person. It is a reason to slow down and ask someone qualified.
The motif of this whole field is a risk-reduction ethic, not a slogan. Take less means erring toward caution, smaller, slower, rarer, whenever there is doubt. Notice more means staying honest about what you actually observe in yourself, rather than what you hoped to see.
And here is the part the hype never mentions: deciding not to proceed is a completely legitimate, mature outcome of this conversation. If your honest self-assessment lands on "not now," or even "not me," you have not failed the course. You have used it exactly as intended. Choosing well sometimes means choosing nothing at all.
Notice honestly, and the decision — whatever it is — becomes yours.
