Before we talk about a single truffle, dose or schedule, we owe you something rarer than advice: an honest account of what is actually known. The internet will tell you microdosing rewires your brain, cures your depression and makes you a better parent. It will also tell you it is a reckless gamble that will unravel your mind. Both stories are louder than the evidence behind them.
Here is the calm truth. The science on microdosing is young, mostly built from small studies, and heavily shaped by what people expect to happen. That does not make it worthless. It makes it fragile. And fragile evidence deserves careful, not confident, reading.
When the loudest claims run far ahead of the data, suspicion is the responsible response — in both directions.
Not all "evidence" carries the same weight. It helps to picture a ladder, from weakest to strongest.
Anecdote. One person's story: "I microdosed and my anxiety lifted." Vivid, human, and almost impossible to interpret. We never learn what else changed in their life, or what they expected going in.
Observational study. Researchers survey or follow many people who already microdose. Better than a single story, but the people choose themselves — the curious, the hopeful, the already-improving — so the results can flatter the practice.
Randomised controlled trial (RCT). People are randomly given either a real dose or a placebo, and ideally nobody knows which. This is the strongest tool we have for separating a real effect from wishful thinking.
The striking pattern is this: the higher you climb the ladder, the smaller the effects tend to look. Glowing online testimonials describe transformation. The handful of blinded trials that have actually been run found benefits that were modest, and in some cases no greater than placebo. That gap is the whole story.
When someone takes a substance they believe will help, expectation alone can lift mood, sharpen focus and soften anxiety — measurably. In microdosing this is amplified, because doses are deliberately near the edge of perception. If you can barely feel it, your beliefs about it do a great deal of the work.
This is why self-reported benefits, however genuine and heartfelt, cannot tell us whether the truffle did the work or the

You will often read that microdosing has "no proven harm." Read that phrase slowly. It means harm has not been demonstrated in the limited research so far. It does not mean safety has been proven. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Long-term, frequent, low-dose use simply has not been studied enough for anyone to make you a promise — and we will not pretend otherwise.
That honesty sets our stance for everything ahead. This course is harm reduction, not persuasion. We will describe risks, trade-offs and uncertainties so that you — an informed, legal, consenting adult — can make your own decision. We will never prescribe, never promise a cure, and never tell you something is safe.
To give you a map, here are the four risk territories we will travel through:
Interactions — how psilocybin can meet your medications and other substances.
Mental-health contraindications — the psychological histories that warrant real caution.
Physical considerations — the body, especially the heart, and frequency of use.
Sourcing — knowing what you actually have, legally and safely.
Notice and you start with judgement intact. That is the point.
