If you have arrived here hoping to become sharper, faster, or more productive at work, it is worth pausing on the very first day. A great many people who microdose describe shifts in their attention and creative flow. Those descriptions are real in the sense that people genuinely had them. But a description is not the same thing as a proven effect, and that gap is the foundation everything else in this course is built on.
Throughout these lessons you will read sentences like people report feeling less pulled toward distraction or people describe ideas arriving more easily. Read those carefully. "People report X" is a claim about what someone noticed. It is not a claim that X reliably happens, and it is certainly not a claim that the dose caused X. Three different statements live here, and they are easy to blur:
People report X — someone observed it and said so.
X happens — it occurs predictably, for most people, under similar conditions.
The dose caused X — without the dose, X would not have occurred.
Most of what circulates online quietly slides from the first to the third. This course refuses to.
The main reason that slide is so easy is expectancy — the placebo effect, in plain terms. When you take something hoping for a creativity boost, your attention changes. You start watching for evidence that it worked. So on a day you expected to feel creative, you notice the good idea you might have had anyway, and you quietly credit the dose for it. The dull stretch an hour earlier gets forgotten; the one bright moment gets remembered and attributed.
When you expect a benefit, you tend to notice the version of yourself you were hoping for — and hand the dose the credit.
This is not a flaw in you. It is how human attention and memory work for everyone. It is also why honest self-knowledge here is genuinely hard, and why a casual "it definitely helps me focus" deserves a gentle question mark.
The small number of blinded studies done so far — where neither the participant nor sometimes the researcher knows who got the real dose — point in the same direction. When researchers control for expectancy, the effects of microdosing on cognition and creativity become surprisingly hard to separate from placebo. People who took a placebo while believing it was a microdose often reported similar benefits. That does not prove nothing is happening; it proves that

Given all that, here is the promise this course will and will not make. It will describe, honestly and in detail, what people notice and how they put those experiences into words. It will never promise that you personally will become more focused, more creative, or more productive. Those promises would be dishonest, and many people, on many days, report noticing nothing at all.
That is also why the College's anchor line sits at the centre of everything here:
Take less. Notice more.
The value on offer is observation, not optimisation. The skill you are building is paying closer, calmer attention to your own mind — not chasing a performance upgrade. If by the end you conclude the practice does little for your work, that is a perfectly valid and common finding, not a failure.
One piece of grounding before we go further. This course is strictly educational and non-clinical: nothing here is medical advice, and nothing here treats or improves any condition. Psilocybin truffles are legal only in the Netherlands, for adults aged 18 and over; laws differ everywhere else, and your own jurisdiction is yours to know.
Notice what you notice — and stay honest about who deserves the credit.
