Brochures love the word retreat. It conjures forest light, soft voices, a few days away from the noise. Before any of that, it helps to know what you are actually looking at, described plainly and without the soft-focus.
In practice, a retreat or guided journey usually means a multi-day, residential or semi-residential experience built around one or more guided sessions. The structure tends to look the same wherever you go:
Preparation beforehand: intake, intention-setting, sometimes a call or workshop.
One or more guided sessions at the centre of the days, with facilitators present.
Integration afterward: time and support to make sense of what happened.
That arc, prepare, journey, integrate, is the skeleton under almost every honest programme. When a part of it is missing, that absence tells you something, which is exactly what this course will teach you to read.
Law is not a detail here; it shapes everything about where and how these experiences happen. This course is centred on the Netherlands, where fresh psilocybin truffles are legal for adults 18 and over, and where most organised, above-board retreats operate. That legal footing is why a real industry of screening, facilitation and aftercare has been able to grow there in the open.
Elsewhere, the picture is different. In many countries the same experiences exist only in ceremony and tradition-based settings, often tied to specific cultures, and frequently in legal grey zones or outright prohibition.
This course never instructs anyone to break the law, and never suggests travelling somewhere to do something illegal. Where you are, and what is legal there, is your responsibility to know.
We teach you to evaluate; we do not hand you a permission slip.
Here is the part marketing will never tell you: 'retreat' is not a protected or regulated term. Anyone can use it. It stretches across an enormous range of quality.
At one end sits a carefully screened, integration-heavy programme that turns some applicants away, employs trained facilitators, and stays in contact for weeks afterward. At the other end sits a weekend event that takes your money, runs a session, and waves goodbye with little or no aftercare. Both are sold under the same word.
Answer every question, then submit to see how you did. You can retake it as often as you like — your score is just for you.

And the usual signals you might trust elsewhere fail you here:
Brand tells you almost nothing. A polished website is a design budget, not a safety record.
Price tells you almost nothing. Expensive can mean careful, or it can simply mean expensive.
Beautiful photography tells you about a photographer.
If the label and the price cannot guide you, something else has to. That something is a set of questions and signals you carry in yourself.
The job of this course is narrow and honest: to give you a way to read a retreat before you pay for it, rather than trusting the marketing to read it for you. You will learn what good screening looks like, how to assess the people holding the space, what genuine consent and safety involve, and why integration decides what the whole thing was worth.
Notice what this course is not. It is not a recommendation to attend one. It does not promise benefits, it makes no medical claims, and it will never tell you that a retreat is right for you. Those are not our calls to make.
Take less. Notice more. Begin by noticing the territory clearly, before anyone asks you to step into it.
The clearer your eyes are now, the better every later decision becomes.
