There is a quiet shift in posture that changes everything about how you approach a retreat. Most marketing invites you to arrive as a hopeful customer, someone who wants this to be the answer and is half-ready to believe it already is. The healthier stance is the opposite: an informed adult, calm and a little sceptical, making a considered decision.
The reason is structural. This field is unregulated, which means no licensing body has checked the organiser for you. The burden of due diligence falls on you, the participant. That sounds like a weight, but it is also a tool, because it gives you a simple test:
A good organiser welcomes scrutiny. A weak one deflects it. How they respond to your questions is itself one of the clearest signals you will get.
Ask plainly, and watch what comes back. Openness is a green flag. Defensiveness, vagueness or irritation at being questioned is a red one.
Before you evaluate any organiser, turn the lens around and look honestly at why you want to go. Motivation is not a small detail; it shapes whether a retreat is a reasonable choice for you at all.
Some motivations sit on solid ground:
Curiosity about your own mind.
A genuine wish to reflect, to step back and look at your life with fresh attention.
Others deserve real caution:
A wish to escape a crisis, to flee something painful happening right now.
A hope to be 'fixed', to hand over a problem and receive a solution.
That second group is where people get hurt, because they ask a retreat to be something it is not.
A retreat is not therapy. It is not a cure. It is not a substitute for mental-health care.
If you are carrying something that needs treatment, the place to take it is to a qualified professional, not a guided session. Naming your real motivation honestly, before you read a single brochure, is the most useful preparation there is.
The rest of this course is organised around four things worth scrutinising, in this order:
Responde cada pregunta y envíala para ver tu resultado. Puedes repetirlo tantas veces como quieras — la puntuación es solo para ti.

Screening — who they let in, and crucially, who they turn away. A retreat willing to say no is showing care.
Facilitators — who holds the space, and what training and experience actually stands behind them.
Consent and safety — the agreements and protections during the days themselves, and your ongoing right to pause or stop.
Integration — what makes the experience mean anything afterward, the part most often neglected.
These are the load-bearing walls. If one is weak, the structure is weak, no matter how lovely the brochure looks. We will take them one at a time so you can assess each on its own terms.
Let us set expectations cleanly, so you are never waiting for a verdict that is not coming.
This course will give you questions to ask and a vocabulary of red flags and green flags to listen for. What it will never give you is a verdict on any specific provider. We do not rank retreats, endorse them, or tell you that one is safe. We hand you the lens; you do the looking.
And here is the conclusion you are always allowed to reach:
Choosing not to attend is a completely legitimate outcome. 'Not this one,' or 'not now,' or 'not for me at all,' are mature, valid decisions.
The goal is not to talk you into anything. It is to leave you genuinely free to choose, with clear eyes and your own questions in hand.
