When people arrive at microdosing, almost everyone asks the same opening question: how much? It feels like the important number. It feels like the thing that decides everything.
This course is going to gently turn you away from that instinct. Not because dose is irrelevant, but because it is the smaller lever. The bigger one — the one that quietly defines every protocol you will ever read about — is the spacing between doses. The off-days. How often you don't dose matters more than the exact amount on the days you do.
That is a strange idea at first. So let's make it concrete.
Psilocybin builds what's called acute tolerance, and it builds it fast. In plain language: if you take it again too soon, your body has not fully reset, and the same amount tends to do less. Take it day after day and many people report the same thing within about a week — "nothing really happens anymore." The dose hasn't changed. The body has simply stopped responding to it the way it did on day one.
There's a second cost. On a day when your body hasn't reset and you reach for the same amount anyway — or nudge it up to chase the original feeling — you raise the chance of an over-feeling day: restless, wired, a bit too much. So daily dosing tends to give you the worst of both ends. Less of what you were hoping to notice, and more of what you weren't.
Structured off-days solve both problems at once. A clear, un-dosed day lets the body reset, so your next dose lands on fresh ground instead of a flattened one.
Take less. Notice more.
That line is the spine of this whole College, and the off-day is exactly where it earns its meaning.
Think about what noticing actually requires. To notice an effect, you need something to compare it against — a baseline. If every single day is a dose day, you have no clean reference. You can't tell what is the practice and what is just you. The un-dosed day is your control day. It's where you find out what your ordinary Tuesday feels like, so that a dose day has something honest to be measured against.
Consider two people:
One doses every single day. Within a week they report the effect has faded to almost nothing, and they have no off-day to compare against, so they can't even tell whether anything ever changed.

One builds rest days into their week. Their sensitivity stays intact, and because they have un-dosed days as a reference, they can actually describe the difference — quietly, honestly, in their own words.
The second person isn't taking more. They're often taking less overall. But they're learning more, because the rhythm is built for observation.
This is the frame to carry through the whole course: a protocol is a rhythm of attention, not a treatment schedule. We are not dosing to fix or cure anything, and nothing here is medical advice. We're describing patterns that people report, and building a structure that lets you observe your own experience with some honesty.
So when the rest of the lessons name dose amounts and schedules, remember which lever is doing the heavy lifting. The number on the dose day is the small choice. The spacing — the off-days — is the consequential one.
More frequent is not more effective. More spacious is more observable.
