Imagine two people, three weeks into microdosing. Both keep a journal. Both want the same thing: to understand whether this practice does anything for them at all.
The first pinches off a small piece of truffle each morning. Some days the piece is a little bigger, some days a little smaller; they never know by how much. Their journal reads like weather with no thermometer — a calm Tuesday, a restless Thursday, a flat weekend, and no idea why. They have data, but it means nothing, because the thing they were measuring kept changing underneath them.
The second weighs to a target. The amount on Monday genuinely resembles the amount on Friday. When a day feels different, they can finally ask an honest question: was that the dose, or was that me?
That difference is the entire course. Everything else — scales, drying, logs — exists to serve it.
The College's motto is Take less. Notice more. It sounds like a mood. It is actually a method, and the method has a hidden requirement.
Noticing is not magic. To notice an effect you have to compare: this day against other days, this dose against the doses around it. And comparison only works if the things you are comparing are actually comparable. If today's amount is an unknown and yesterday's amount was a different unknown, you are not comparing two doses — you are comparing two mysteries.
If every dose is a different unknown amount, you are not microdosing. You are running an experiment where the one variable you most need to hold still changes every single time.
When the dose floats freely, any pattern you think you see could just as easily be the amount you happened to take. Measurement is what holds that variable still so the rest of your life — sleep, mood, focus, stress — can show through clearly. This is why measurement is not a tidy afterthought for the perfectionists. It is the floor the whole practice stands on.
Throughout this course we chase two related but distinct goals.
Accuracy means hitting an intended amount — if you aim for a specific target, you actually land near it.
Consistency means hitting the same amount again — whatever you took last time, you can take it again.

They are not the same. You could be consistently a little off target (always landing in the same wrong spot) — and for self-observation, that is far more useful than being scattered all around the right one. A steady, slightly-off dose still lets you compare day to day. A dose that lurches between extremes tells you nothing, even if its average is perfect.
So if you remember one ranking from this lesson: consistency matters more than precision for honest self-observation. Repeatability is what makes a journal trustworthy.
Two frames stay fixed for the whole course.
First, this is non-clinical. We are learning honest self-observation, not dosing toward a promised result. Nothing here treats, cures, or manages any condition, and we make no claims about outcomes. We describe what people report and how things are defined — and health questions belong with a qualified professional.
Second, the legal frame. This College concerns psilocybin-containing truffles, which are legal in the Netherlands for adults 18 and over. Nothing here encourages illegal activity anywhere else. Know your own jurisdiction.
Measurement isn't the boring part you tolerate before the interesting part begins. It is the practice — the quiet act that turns guessing into noticing.
